Oklahoma City – Cloverleaf Infrastructure today announced they have secured options to purchase approximately 337 additional acres in Kingfisher County, adjacent to the current ~1033-acre Project Open Sky site located in Canadian County north of Piedmont.
The additional property provides a path for Project Open Sky to move forward regardless of the outcome of the Piedmont City Council’s consideration of the current proposal on Aug. 24. The company continues to evaluate Project Open Sky’s final footprint based on local government approvals, final technical design and project phasing, and will keep the public informed as more information becomes available.
“We remain committed to bringing this significant investment to the region and creating long-term economic opportunities for the surrounding communities,” said Aaron Bilyeu, Cloverleaf Chief Development Officer. “These additional land options give us greater flexibility as we determine the best path forward for Project Open Sky while continuing to engage with local leaders, residents and other stakeholders.”
Project Open Sky is a proposed large-scale data center development representing more than $1 billion in taxable investment, bringing an estimated $13 million in tax revenue to area schools and the county. The project is expected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs and approximately 300 permanent jobs at full buildout, while generating new economic activity for local contractors, suppliers, restaurants and other businesses.
Cloverleaf has been working with local stakeholders and regional partners to develop a project designed around responsible growth, including commitments to fund project-related infrastructure improvements and minimize impacts on existing residents.
On August 24, the Piedmont City Council is scheduled to consider a rezoning application for the current Project Open Sky proposal, located 100% in Canadian County. Cloverleaf will continue working with Piedmont through that process while simultaneously evaluating how the Kingfisher County property could factor into the project’s final development plan.
“From the beginning, our goal has been to develop Project Open Sky in a way that works for and benefits the community and the region,” said Bilyeu. “The land options in Kingfisher County give us greater flexibility to determine the location and approach that best achieves that goal, ensuring the project can move forward.”
